The wave of Arab Spring had toppled dictators in those countries, started from Tunisia, and then spread further to Yemen, Libya, Egypt and Syria. ![]() At the same time, Muslim countries in the Middle East and North Africa had undergone massive political changes. The high increase in debt to GDP ratio (as of 2010, Greece 142.8%, Italy 119%, and Ireland 96.2%) had threatened the financial collapse of these countries.
